- The TOEIC test (Test of English for International Communication) is a
competency test for non-native speakers of English.
- This test assesses know-how of English abilities in a professional
international environment. For taking this test, no specific language know—how
is required. Nowadays, the TOEIC test is worldwide leader in assessment of
English competency with approximately 4 500 000 tests every year.
- The TOEIC test has been developed by the ETS (Educational Testing Service) in
1979 in order to fulfill the requirements of English assessment for employees of
Japanese corporations. They were interested in gaining competitive advantage in
their specific fields with the help of highly trained personnel with good
English abilities. In the last years, the TOEIC test has been implemented in
many other countries and has quickly become a worldwide standard for assessment
of English competencies in a professional manner.
How does the
TOEIC test take place?
- The TOEIC test is taken in written form and has 200 multiple choice questions.
- Duration of the test if of about 2, 5 hours (with half of
hour given to explanations on how the test takes place).
- The 200 questions are divided into 2 sections:
a) listening comprehension:
45 minutes
b) reading comprehension: 75
minutes
